Some say it’s one of the best crime films ever to be made in Bollywood and some say that it is a bit over-hyped, but there is no denying that Gangs of Wasseypur is one movie that took Bollywood movies to a whole another level, especially the crime thriller genre. Anurag Kashyap did not shy away from setting this movie in a very dark universe, in fact, they used it in such a way that made the longtime followers of Bollywood come back for more.
Since the movie’s release, people have been asking for more such raw crime content. So, Here is a list of movies and TV shows that you should have in your watchlist.
BabumoshaiBandookbaaz:
Nawazuddin Siddiqui is not the only thing common between these two movies, it’s also the dark and crude tone that the movie carries. BabumoshaiBandookbaaz revolves around the life of a mercenary (played by Nawazuddin) and shows us how he deals with different aspects of his life like love, friendship and rivalries. One might think that Nawazuddin Siddiqui is the only selling point of this movie, but that’s not true, because Bidita Bag stole Nawaz’s thunder on more than one occasion and that is why we were very happy to see her take the lead seat in the 2019 ZEE5 original movie, The Sholay Girl.
Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai:
Bollywood has been showing Mumbai as the crime capital and with that has emerged some great gangster movies and once such movie is Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai. This 2010 movie has set the bars high for other Bollywood movies, even for his sequel Once Upon a Time in Mumbai Dobaara! that came out in 2013. The movie was very intriguing, and people were utterly pleased to see Ajay Devgan in such a bold character. Apart from the interesting plotline, the movie also had great music by Pritam who also won and got nominated for multiple awards.

Sarkar:
When one thinks of crime and gangster, the first movie thing that hits their mind would always be the best movie ever made in the history of cinema, The Godfather and there is no way one could replace or even come close to this movie. But no one batted an eyelid after Sarkar became a massive hit in 2005. Ram Gopal Varma is no new name in Bollywood, and he proved his calibre again with this mega-hit movie. Just like the movie it is inspired from, Sarkar had all the fun elements like crime, family drama, conspiracy and many more.
Vaastav:
A Gangster is not born but made by circumstances, and if there is one movie that paints this picture better than any other movie then it has to be Vaastav. In order to support his poor-family, Shirya decides to step into the world of crime and what follows forms the plotline of the movie. Though it is not as raw as the others in the list, the events that Shirya undergoes in the crime world make this movie worth a watch.
Rangbaaz:
If you are one who likes to watch crime based web series, then this web series would make your day. Rangbaaz is a ZEE5 original web series which turned the web series upside down with its fresh take on crime. Set in the backdrop of Gorakhpur, Rangbaaz talks shows crime in the 1990s and how some honest police officers fought against it. You must not miss out on this one.
